About the Black Sea Coastal Highway

From Karasu to Kars, the Black Sea Coastal Highway stretches across a significant part of Turkey’s north coast and passes through 14 different provinces.

To add to the beautiful aesthetic of the Black Sea views to the North, the highway has been landscaped on both sides with lush green grasses and the median filled with hardy bushes and shrubs to add to the natural aesthetic.

Not only does the landscaping provide an aesthetic appeal, it also benefits drivers in many ways. The shrubs in the median provide some shelter to strong winds, especially on coastal roads, as well as preventing the glare from oncoming traffic from temporarily blinding drivers on the opposing side of the road. What’s more, road traffic causes a significant portion of pollution we see on Earth, so by landscaping the roadsides and medians, a large amount of the CO2 produced is quickly absorbed by plants and trees and even some of the particle pollution to boot. This is particularly important as the Black Sea Coastal Highway could pollute the Black Sea significantly but the landscaping means the plants contain most of the pollutants.
