About Gebze Orhangazi Highway

The Gebze Orhangazi Highway stretches 384km from Gebze to Izmir connecting the third largest city in Turkey with the small town located just south of Istanbul. The massive project was opened for use in 2017 and is one of the main routes for travelers moving from Istanbul to Izmir and vice versa.

The median and sides of the road were landscaped with the method of hydroseeding in order to cover a large amount of land in the most efficient way possible and create an attractive aesthetic for motorists. The project was also a green initiative project and sought to reduce the pollution from the construction and ensuing traffic in the most sustainable and efficient way possible.

Hydroseeding the verges revitalizes the soil and the even distribution helps to prevent soil erosion which can be caused by heavy rainfall sweeping the soil into the roads. The grass seed planted on these roadsides absorbs a great deal of CO2 and even reduces particle pollution, making the highway more environmentally friendly.
